Japan Update

I survived a week of blogging! I’m in Japan at the moment and getting a few games in. Not nearly as much as I’d like because I still have a job and the need to make money. There is no rest for a professional.

At the moment I’m working on trying to get new content out in English, another group of people out to Japan to study mahjong here, and of course World Riichi Championship 2020.

It’s a strange problem that those who love mahjong the most and devote the most time to community building spend the least time playing the game. But maybe that shouldn’t be a surprise… Riichi is more than a game as its devotees will tell you. It becomes a part of our life structure.

Almost all of my friends and certainly the people I speak with on a daily basis are riichi players. My business was even started with my riichi mentor - Jenn Barr.

In a global and digital age, mahjong can keep us interacting with each other as people, our brains active as we solve the neverending problems riichi poses, and our fingers flexible from all the tile slinging.

Thanks for reading! <3
