Community over Competition?

Community over Competition?

I went to France and I gave a strategy seminar on suji last week. I think it went good! Somethings I need to fix and a lot of work time to catch up on but I enjoyed it!

I think I enjoy it more than raw tournaments. I’ve traveled to tournaments for over a decade. I know the routine, but teaching and discussion is new. It’s not been done properly in the West and it has room to grow.

The whole event is in fact a peculiarity in the mahjong calendar. Whereas most European events are about tournaments with perhaps a strategy seminar tacked on, the Au Tour de Tuiles is about community foremost. It gives a forum for people to present and discuss strategy. Even the social play games were the first time I’d had an opportunity to discuss strategy with people I’ve played with for years.

This week, I’m going to try streaming a ron2 pro game discussion. Perhaps I’ll do some FF now that the new content excitement has died down. Otherwise, I’m off to the UK Riichi Open at the weekend.

Tomorrow… Someone request Senki Suji. Senki Suji really is jumping the shark so look forward to it!
